Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams has been officially confirmed as a guest star in the new season of Doctor Who.
It was revealed earlier this year that Paul Kaye, who plays Thoros of Myr in Game of Thrones, will appear in a two-parter written by Being Human creator Toby Whithouse.

Williams has played Arya Stark since 2011 in Game of Thrones, which returns for a fifth season next month. She also recently appeared in Channel 4’s one-off drama Cyberbully.
The actress commented: “I’m so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it’s such a big and important part of British Culture. I can’t wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we’ll be shooting not too far from my home town.”
Showrunner Steven Moffat added: “We’re thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways. This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell.”
Comedian Rufus Hound, who recently appeared in Russell T Davies’s Cucumber, will also appear in the new season.
Other new guest cast announced today include Tom Stourton (Horrible Histories), Ariyon Bakare, Simon Lipkin, Ian Conningham, Murray McArthur, Barnaby Kay, John Voce and Struan Rodger.
Two new episodes titles and writers have also been revealed.
Season 9 began filming in Cardiff in January and will air on BBC One this autumn.
