Three new 2024 Doctor Who cast members were announced in Doctor Who Magazine 602.
The most notable is Welsh actress Dame Siân Phillips, who among her many stage, television and film roles, is particularly known for her award-winning performance as Livia in the 1976 BBC television series I, Claudius. She is no stranger to Doctor Who, having lent her voice to several Big Finish audio adventures including the Fourth Doctor adventure The World Traders with Tom Baker.
Callie Cooke will appear in Episode 5 of the 2024 series. Producer Phil Collinson described her role in Doctor Who Magazine as “exciting” “…trust me, this isn’t just a simple guest role. Callie is absolutely front and centre in some of the most challenging material we’ve ever shot, I can’t wait for you to see it. No one will forget her!” Cooke was recently seen in the comedy television series Henpocalypse!
Tachia Newall plays Winston Chidozie in the series finale. Collinson says, “I’m delighted to tell you his scenes are absolutely terrifying!” Newall was a regular in Waterloo Road between 2007 and 2013. He also appeared in Pennyworth and had a part in the first instalment of the new Dune movie series.
The names of the actors playing The Beatles in the second episode of the series The Devil’s Chord were also revealed in DWM. At least three of the four actors hail from Liverpool, an important characteristic for speaking roles for four famous musicians from Liverpool.
Doctor Who, starring Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson returns on 11 May 2024 midnight, 00:00 BT (10 May 7:00pm ET) streaming on BBC iPlayer and Disney+ with Episode One directed by Julie Anne Robinson and Episode Two, The Devil’s Chord directed by Ben Chessell. Both premiere episodes, written by Russell T Davies, will broadcast on BBC One in the UK and Ireland on 11 May immediately before Eurovision.
Doctor Who Magazine 602 is available from Panini and WH Smith and as a digital edition from Pocketmags.
