Some news about the 2024 and 2025 series of Doctor Who starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor was released in Doctor Who Magazine 594

Art director for props Michael van Kesteren, along with his description of the Fourteenth Doctor’s sonic screwdriver, said he was asked to design another new sonic screwdriver for Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor.

“There were certain things requested for Ncuti’s sonic — which had a few things that needed to happen.”

There was also a tantalising mention of the new TARDIS interior set built at Wolf Studios Wales.

“More recently, [prop maker Barry Jones has] been kept busy working on the time rotor for the incredible new TARDIS set. (Trust us, when you see it. you’ll want to shake his hand.)”

Four new cast members were announced for the 2024 series; Gemma Arrowsmith, Mary Malone, Billy Brayshaw and Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy. Executive producer Phil Collinson told DWM that fans “won’t have to wait long to find out” how Arrowsmith and Malone’s characters “connect to the Doctor and Ruby Sunday.” According to his Spotlight CV, Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy will portray a character named Carson in an episode directed by Julie Ann Robinson.

The 2024 series wrapped filming on July 14 with scene 73 of Episode 8, a scene somewhere in the middle of the finale episode of the series with the Doctor and and his companion Ruby Sunday in the the TARDIS. “Enemies are being fought,” and Ncuti Gatwa to slides to the floor in the scene according to Russell T Davies’ Letter from the Showrunner in DWM.

Russell T Davies also wrote that “Yasmin Finney wrapped a few days ago…,” indicating that Finney possibly filmed something a few days before the 2024 series wrapped filming on 14 July 2023. Finney is known to star as character named Rose in at least one of the 60th anniversary specials which wrapped filming in July 2022.

There was also news on 2025 series of Doctor Who starring Ncuti Gatwa. The series will have at least one guest writer who met the production team in Cardiff on July 4. Script editor Scott Handcock stated in his DWM Production Notes column “Scripts are still coming in, crew are getting booked, and meetings are filling the diaries. Three weeks till formal prep begins on the next season!” Handcock wrote this in the middle of July so formal prep for the 2025 Doctor Who series begins imminently.

Doctor Who will return in November 2023 with three 60th anniversary specials starring David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as companion Donna Noble titled The Star Beast, Wild Blue Yonder and The Giggle.

In the following festive period, Ncuti Gatwa will star in his first full Doctor Who episode as the Fifteenth Doctor in the Doctor Who festive special alongside Millie Gibson as companion Ruby Sunday.

A new 8-episode Doctor Who series starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor and Millie Gibson as Ruby will debut in 2024.
