Well-known writer, producer and director Dean Devlin’s company Electric Entertainment is said to be in talks with the BBC about a new Doctor Who series, according to The Times.

Devlin has already expressed his interest in the form of a Facebook reel

Headquartered in Los Angeles, California, Electric Entertainment is an independent studio headed by Devlin along with his partners Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson. Among company’s television series are Leverage, Almost Paradise, The Ark and The Librarians.

Devlin produced and co-wrote the blockbuster films Stargate, Independence Day and Godzilla.

The Times also reports that Doctor Who actor David Tennant was approached by a production company said to be tendering a bid for the long-running show and that Devlin believes reinstating Tennant as the time lord could help revive Doctor Who. This is not an original concept since Tennant revived his role as the Doctor for both the 50th and 60th Doctor Who anniversary specials.

Tennant starred as the villainous Cale Erendreich in Electric Entertainment’s 2018 thriller film Bad Samaritan.

A report of an entertainment company already in talks the BBC is peculiarly questionable and potentially problematic since the BBC has not yet posted it’s Doctor Who Invitation to Tender (ITT), a document which begins the process of inviting competing production companies to submit pitches. Premature talks with a singular production company before posting the tender would seem a violation of the BBC’s charter.

The BBC announced its intention to post the Doctor Who ITT on June 10, 2026, with a plan to offer the tender some time “this year”, the details to be announced “in due course.”
