Jeff Goldblum as Zeus in KAOS

KAOS – cancelled after one season at Netflix

The modern retelling of Greek myth was led by Jeff Goldblum as Zeus.

Despite only launching at the end of August, the fickle finger of fate (or rather Netflix) has called time on KAOS.

The clever and irreverent reinterpretation of Greek myth by Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World) played out in a modern setting, with the Gods squabbling above while three humans began a journey of understanding below.

KAOS

Despite ending on a terrific cliffhanger, the show won’t be back for more. In that respect, it joins a long line of shows that have been cutdown sharply. Recently, that fate also befell The Sandman adjacent show Dead Boy Detectives.

Aurora Perrineau, who played Riddy (Eurydice) in the series, has posted a lengthy message on social media talking about her appreciation for the show, as well as her co-stars and colleagues.

Expectations

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cancellation hinged on disappointing viewing figures. However, you have to wonder what Netflix’s expectations were? Not every show is going to be a breakout hit like Wednesday or Stranger Things, and KAOS was granted less than six weeks to find its audience before it was cancelled.

Frustratingly in this case, writer Charlie Covell has specifically talked about needing three series for the story to play out.
