With Season 3 of The Boys barely underway, Season 4 is coming…
The third run of The Boys, Prime Video’s action-packed, gory and definitely NSFW show has just exploded into our lives. With Prime Video delivering an impactful three-episode drop on the 3rd of June, the season continues with weekly instalments.
However, as we enjoy this run, the streamer has an eye on the future; they’ve already announced a further season of superhero shenanigans.
While viewing figures such as the Nielsen’s take weeks to filter through, Amazon claim that The Boys has grown its worldwide audience. It’s apparently up by +17% from season two, and +234% from season one. How this sits in comparison to Stranger Things, whose viewing figures are being trumpeted by Netflix, will be interesting to compare.
Relentlessly entertaining
Speaking of the swift recommission, Vernon Sanders (Amazon Studios’ head of global television) says:
“From our first conversation with Eric Kripke and the creative team about Season Three of The Boys, we knew the show was continuing to get even bolder—an impressive feat considering the wild success of the Emmy-nominated second season”
“The Boys continues to push boundaries in storytelling while also being relentlessly entertaining and threading the needle on social satire that feels all too real. This stylized world of the series has incredible global reach and the viewership for opening weekend is proof of that. We are immensely proud of the cast and crew that has spawned a franchise for Prime Video, and we look forward to bringing more of The Boys to our customers.”
Exploding genitalia
Showrunner Eric Kripke adds:
“Speaking for the cast and crew, we’re so grateful to Sony, Amazon, and most of all the fans for embracing the show and allowing us to make more.”
“We’re thrilled to continue Butcher and the Boys’ fight against Homelander and the Seven, as well as comment on the insane world we’re living in. Also, this is the first time in history that exploding genitalia has led to further success.”
The mind boggles as to what could be coming next – and we haven’t even experienced “Herogasm” yet!
The Vought Cinematic Universe
Of course, a fourth season of The Boys is far from the only thing in production as the show already has two spin-offs. In animated form, there’s Diabolical which dropped a first season of short films in March. plus there’s an as-yet-untitled Young Supes show coming too.
The Boys comes from Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television Studios, with Kripke Enterprises, Original Film, and Point Grey Pictures. It’s based on the comic series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.
The Boys Season 3 continues with weekly episodes on Fridays, building to the season finale on the 8th of July.
We’ll keep you posted on Season 4 as we hear more.
