Amazon MGM Studios head Vernon Saunders updates on a number of the streamer’s shows.

While it’s been brewing for a while, the live-action Tomb Raider series should be filming early in 2025.

The adaptation of the enduring game franchise comes from Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) with her writing, rather than acting, hat on.

The news comes via an interview that Amazon MGM Studios head Vernon Saunders has given to The Wrap’s Lucas Manfredi, covering a number of their shows.

On Tomb Raider, he said:

“We are hard at work. We’ve got great material. Phoebe is really good. We’re really excited. My guess is we’ll spend the rest of this year getting things prepped so that we can start production early next year. We’ve got to find our Lara Croft, so that global wide search will start sooner rather than later.”

The live-action television series of Tomb Raider is part of an interconnected reinvigoration of the franchise currently underway. New animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, with Hayley Atwell voicing Lara, premieres on 10th October.

Fallout & Mr & Mrs Smith

Saunders also touched Fallout and Mr & Mrs Smith, both recent successes for the streamer which have earned 17 and 16 Emmy nominations, respectively.

Meanwhile, work progresses on Fallout, with scripts in hand for Season 2. Sanders discusses the show’s potential saying:

“But we definitely think “Fallout” is a multi-season show that can go in a lot of different directions. So we’re very excited about what’s been laid out so far.”

Other shows

Sanders also makes comment on a range of other shows. On The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the network is “really bullish but humble”, while there’s discussion on the expanding international Citadel franchise – “… each of them are very tonally different. They have a global story that people can access, but they’re tinged with things that feel very specific to each region.”

Plus, end of The Boys and its college-age spin-off Gen V which has its second season in production now and is “turning out to be really strong.”
