The audio producers continue their new Torchwood range on audio, announcing three boxsets for 2023.
While they’ve filled in the gaps and created new eras for Torchwood since 2015, it wasn’t until 2017’s Aliens Among Us series that Big Finish took the organization forward.
Past the end of Miracle Day, three boxsets continued the tale of the organisation’s Cardiff branch, welcoming old faces and introducing new characters. Three further boxsets followed, God Among Us, which took the story further.
However, one of the show’s staple characters was effectively written out; doubtless due to her busy filming commitments on the BBC/S4C thriller Keeping Faith), Eve Myles’ was not available to reprise the role of Gwen Cooper.
Now, the show is coming back for another three audio boxsets, simply titled Among Us, which take the story further. They release in quick succession during 2023, one each in May, June and July. Even more excitingly, Eve Myles returns to the role of Gwen for a story in the opening boxset.
Here’s the initial synopsis for Torchwood: Among Us:
Torchwood are on the run. As the world puts itself back together, Torchwood are there to pick up the pieces. And they find something nasty hiding in them.
While details are scant so far, we know that Eve Myles and Kai Owen reprise their roles as Gwen Cooper and Rhys Williams in the first boxset. ‘Misty Eyes’, written by Tim Foley, finds the couple living a peaceful life together in Iceland. Naturally, as you would expect with Torchwood, that’s not likely to last for long.

“Gwen is a beacon. She’s that person keeping an eye on everything. She can go to the ends of the Earth but she’ll always be Torchwood. Gwen is in my DNA and I love her DNA.”
Producer and Script Editor James Goss adds:
“It’s wonderful that Eve Myles found the time to reunite with Kai Owen to kick off Torchwood Among Us. We’ve been sat on this coup for some time now, and it’s great that people are finally going to find out what brings Gwen Cooper back into the world of Torchwood.”
