The Tenth Doctor Adventures continue on BBC Radio 4 Extra with Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler.
(Updated 27/08/22): Now that the radio schedule shows further ahead, we can see that David Tennant’s audio adventures on BBC Radio 4 Extra will continue with Big Finish’s Volume 2.
The second trio of tales jumps back to Series 2 of the television show and stars Billie Piper as Rose Tyler. We reviewed the boxset on its original release and said it “… recaptures the wit and the pace of the Tennant/Piper pairing.”
First up, however, on Saturday 3rd September: ‘Death and the Queen’ by James Goss:
Donna Noble has never been lucky in love.
So when, one day, her Prince does come, she is thrilled to have the wedding of all weddings to look forward to. Though the Doctor isn’t holding his breath for an invitation. And her future mother-in-law is certainly not amused.
But on the big day itself, Donna finds her castle under siege from the darkest of forces, marching at the head of a skeleton army.
When it looks like even the Doctor can’t save the day, what will Queen Donna do to save her people from Death itself?
The story’s guest stars include Blake Ritson (Da Vinci’s Demons) and Alice Krige (Star Trek: First Contact).
On Saturday 10th September it’s ‘Infamy of the Zaross’ by John Dorney:
When Jackie Tyler takes a trip to visit her old friend Marge in Norwich, she finds her holiday immediately interrupted in the worst way possible – an alien invasion! The infamous Zaross have come to take over the Earth.
Or have they? After Jackie calls in the Doctor and Rose to deal with the menace, it soon becomes clear that this is a very unusual invasion indeed.
The Doctor is about to uncover one of the most heinous crimes in the history of the galaxy. And if he can’t stop it an awful lot of people are going to die.
As well as having Camille Coduri reprise her role as the irrepressible Jackie Tyler, the story also stars Rosie Cavaliero (Gentleman Jack) and Guy Henry (Rogue One).
And then?
The series should then conclude on successive Saturdays with the historical tale ‘Sword of the Chevalier’ and the futuristic Ice Warrior story ‘Cold Vengeance’.
Just a reminder: BBC Radio 4 Extra is available on DAB in the UK, and to stream internationally.

Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Adventures to air on BBC Radio 4 Extra
The Tenth Doctor and Donna return to the airwaves for audio adventures.
We’ve been avidly hoovering up the shots of David Tennant and Catherine Tate in Doctor Who’s 60th Anniversary. However, it’s doubtless a long old wait until we get to see the fruits of that filming.
In the meantime, their previous return to those roles (with audio producers Big Finish) for The Tenth Doctor Adventures are about to get an audio airing as BBC Radio 4 Extra has a run of six hour-long stories lined up.
On Saturday 20th August it’s ‘Technophobia’ by Matt Fitton:
When Londoners appear to be un-evolving, The Doctor and Donna take action.
At London’s Technology Museum, the most brilliant IT brain in the country can no longer work her computer. More worrying, the exhibits are attacking the visitors, while outside, people seem to be losing control of the technology that runs their lives.
Is it all down to human stupidity, or is something more sinister going on? Beneath the streets, the Koggnossenti are waiting for all of London to fall prey to technophobia…
The story’s guest stars include Catherine Tate’s long-time collaborator Niky Wardley and Rachael Stirling (‘The Crimson Horror‘).
On Saturday 27th August, it’s ‘Time Reaver’ by Jenny T Colgan:
On spaceport Calibris, The Doctor and Donna go in search of an outlawed weapon.
With the TARDIS is in need of spares, The Doctor heads for the spaceport Calibris. It’s a place where anything goes and everything can be bought… at a price.
The Timelord is surprised the find the officious Vacintians are trying to impose some order on the chaos. He soon discovers why: an outlawed weapon – The Time Reaver – is loose on the streets. It’s a weapon that can destroy its victims… slowly and agonisingly.
Sabrina Bartlett (The Larkins) guest stars, as do Doctor Who stalwarts Terry Molloy and Dan Starkey.
Donna or Rose?
While the schedule goes no further, we’ll assume the third story will be ‘Death and the Queen’. However, we don’t yet know if the series will continue on to Volume 2 with Billie Piper’s Rose, or Volume 3 with more Donna.
Either way, it’s great to see these entertaining stories granted a wider audience. It you want to know more, CultBox has reviewed all three volumes. There’s also a host of further Tenth Doctor stories available at Big Finish, including the entertaining Dalek Universe series.
