Missy returning again in 'Doctor Who' finale?

Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi has hinted that Michelle Gomez will be back as Missy in Season 9’s finale.

Gomez is confirmed to return in Steven Moffat’s two-part opener, titled ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’ and ‘The Witch’s Familiar’, but no further appearances have yet been announced.

The Green Wing actress made her debut in last year’s ‘Deep Breath’ and featured in seven of Season 8’s episodes.

Asked by threeifbyspace.net if Missy will tempt the Doctor to a dark place in the new season and if he sees a little bit of logic in her darkness, Capaldi commented: “I think he sees that already; I think he understands.”

Teasing Missy’s possible return in the finale, he added: “I’ve got to explain, I’m in the middle of doing Episode 11 and we’re just setting up our whole finale, so I know there are reveals coming that perhaps explain some of it.”

Capaldi also discussed how his Doctor will have changed in Season 9: “…I think he has come to know himself better and recognised, even if you’re two and a half thousand years old, that life is short. He’s in a fabulous position and he has access to the whole of time and space. So I think this season sees him much more running towards adventure and challenging himself and being almost reckless.”

However, he revealed that the Doctor’s new attitude might be short-lived: “He knows that at some point he’ll be taken to a very dark place. At some point he’ll have to fight the good fight in a way that nobody else has had to do it and it will cost him dearly.”
