As we previously reported, Doctor Who Season Two will officially launch on Saturday 12 April. Along with the announced transmission times are new images and casting news.

The Doctor meets Belinda Chandra and begins an epic quest to get her back to Earth. But a mysterious force is stopping their return and the time-traveling TARDIS team must face great dangers, bigger enemies and wider terrors than ever before.

Fans can expect to see space battles, flying saucers, robots, alien worlds, underwater adventures, anti-gravity explorers and a real-life cartoon character who climbs out of the screen to terrify cinema-goers.

Doctor Who - Alan Cumming as King James I in 'The Witchfinders'

Emmy Award winner Alan Cumming will guest star in the second episode as Mr Ring-a-Ding. He previously played the role of King James in the Doctor Who Series 11 episode The Witchfinders.

Doctor Who Season Two - Mr Ring-a-Ding

Mr Ring-a-Ding is a happy, funny, singalong cartoon, who lives in Sunny Town with his friend Sunshine Sally. However, in 1952, after years of repeats in cinemas across the land, Mr Ring-a-Ding suddenly looks beyond the screen and sees the real world outside – and the consequences are terrifying. Mr Ring-a-Ding will terrorize a cinema audience in Episode Two of the series.

“Only Alan Cumming could give a runaway cartoon so much wit, malice, danger and fun,” Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies said in a press release. “He makes the whole universe of Doctor Who wilder and madder than ever, and it’s an absolute honour to welcome him on board the TARDIS.”

The new season stars Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra, and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. Also adventuring through time and space this season are Rose Ayling-Ellis, Anita Dobson, Christopher Chung, Michelle Greenidge, Jonah Hauer-King, Ruth Madeley, Jemma Redgrave, and Susan Twist.

Disney announced that theatre, television and film actor Freddie Fox, known for known for his starring roles in HBO’s House of the Dragon, Hulu’s The Great and Apple TV’s Slow Horses will also join the series.

Doctor Who Season Two will officially launch on Saturday 12 April at 8am on BBC iPlayer and later that day on BBC One in the UK. Those outside of the UK can watch Doctor Who Season Two on Disney+ where available simultaneously starting at 3am ET/12am PT.
