The UK free-to-air channel beings a run of classic Doctor Who stories this month.
Forces TV have announced that they will be showing a run of twelve stories from the classic era of Doctor Who. With BBC repeats a rarity and access to these episodes otherwise needing a subscription or a boxset budget, it’s great news for newer fans.
The stories are all apparently all drawn from the the colour era of the show, beginning with the much-loved Jon Pertwee debut Spearhead from Space.
It’s the story that introduces the brilliant Liz Shaw (Caroline John) and sees the Doctor reluctantly begin his Earth exile. Working with the Brigadier (Nicholas Courtney) and UNIT, it’s also where he fends off the first Auton invasion.
Details of the other stories are to be announced, but apparently Doctors Three through to Seven all will feature. In response to viewer’s questions on the channel’s Facebook page they say:
“We’ll be showing twelve classic stories spanning two decades and five Doctors – starting with Jon Pertwee in Spearhead from Space and finishing with Sylvester McCoy in Remembrance of the Daleks. The first episode is on Tuesday 15th February. Keep an eye on our listings for more info.”
Looking at online schedules, it appears episodes will be shown in double-bills, repeated three times a day.
The channel has been building quite a repertoire in the realm of cult tv lately; they’ve shown Blake’s 7, Sapphire and Steel, UFO and The Omega Factor.
