Further to the recent announcement, we now have a list of the stories Forces TV viewers can look forward to.
After the exciting news that a selection of classic Doctor Who stories from the 1970s and 80s are coming to Forces TV, we were left with a puzzle – what would they show?
Thanks to the broadcaster’s statement to fans on Facebook, we knew the start and end of the run:
“We’ll be showing twelve classic stories spanning two decades and five Doctors – starting with Jon Pertwee in Spearhead from Space and finishing with Sylvester McCoy in Remembrance of the Daleks. The first episode is on Tuesday 15th February. Keep an eye on our listings for more info.”
However, thanks to a report from TVZone, we can now apparently fill that ten story gap – and it’s a well chosen bunch too!
The 12 classic Doctor Who stories Forces TV have acquired are:
Jon Pertwee: Spearhead from Space and The Daemons.
Tom Baker: Genesis of the Daleks, Terror of the Zygons, The Robots of Death, City of Death and Logopolis.
Peter Davison: Kinda, Earthshock and The Caves of Androzani.
Colin Baker: Vengeance on Varos
Sylvester McCoy: Remembrance of the Daleks
Naturally, we have thoughts
There are a number of much-lauded stories; appearances for both the Daleks and the Cybermen, a few couple of regenerations too. We’re particularly pleased to see Kinda in the list, plus the meta-Vengeance on Varos. Plus inspired wit of City of Death is welcome in any list as far as we’re concerned!
Interestingly, it’s not all four-parters as we anticipated. The Daemons has five episodes and Genesis of the Daleks has six. Meanwhile, Season 22’s Vengeance on Varos is a 2 x 45 mins tale, but listed as four parts in the TVZone piece. This many be an error, or an intention to show an alternative cut; we believe it also exists as a 4 x 25 version for sale overseas.
Either way, it will be fun to find out. Forces TV appears on the following UK platforms: Sky 181, Virgin 274, Freesat 165, Freeview 96 & YouView 96.
Spearhead From Space begins on Tuesday the 15th of February, showing in double-bills and repeated three times a day.
