Ahead of the new series of Doctor Who landing on BBC One this weekend, actors Anita Dobson and Varada Sethu and writer Russell T Davies were in the studio for a Big Guest Friday special on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2.
While the discussion turned to the sixth episode of the series, The Interstellar Song Contest written by Juno Dawson and Russell T Davies, Mills, who had already spoken to Rylan (who is in the episode), revealed, “Alan Cumming is in it as well.”
“Yes,” showrunner Russell T Davies affirmed. “The voice of an evil cartoon called Mr Ring-a-Ding. And he’s in that episode as well. And he’s a just keeps on mysteriously cropping up in all these episodes.”
This is new information. So for, it’s only been announced that Cumming lends his voice to Mr Ring-a-Ding, a dangerous cartoon character who emerges from a cinema screen in the second episode of the series, Lux.
Varada Sethu mentioned in the discussion that she didn’t act opposite Cumming so perhaps it’s his voice which keeps cropping up. Fans will have to wait and see.
Cumming has previously played the role of King James in the Doctor Who Series 11 episode The Witchfinders.
