Hiddleston reprises his role as Jonathan Pine as the world of The Night Manager continues eight years later…

Updated 24/06/24: The BBC confirm returning cast, including Olivia Colman.

With the return of The Night Manager underway, the BBC have now revealed a number of principal cast members. Tom Hiddleston was previously announced, so the big noise here is Olivia Colman. The ever-busy Oscar winner, and sometime monarch, reprises her role as Angela Burr.

The pair are not alone either, as fellow returnees include Alistair Petrie (Sex Education) as Sandy Langbourne and Douglas Hodge (Joker) as Rex Mayhew. Plus, Michael Nardone (Rome) as Frisky and Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place) as Daniel Roper.

Character 7’s Stephen Garrett said:

“The best dramas all have at their core some version of the family, and the first season of The Night Manager. It’s thrilling that our riotously dysfunctional family is now, after 8 years apart, reunited for season 2, spearheaded by the impeccable Olivia Colman. Joined by Messers Petrie, Hodge, Nardone and the global star that Noah Jupe has rightly become, it almost looks like we planned it…”

New Recruits

The new season’s leads are Diego Calva (Narcos: Mexico) and Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & The Six). The wider cast includes Indira Varma (Doctor Who), Paul Chahidi (The Serpent Queen) and Hayley Squires (Adult Material).

Filming on series 2 of The Night Manager begins this month. We’ll keep you posted.

The Night Manager – Tom Hiddleston is returning for two more series

The BBC and Prime Video have confirmed last year’s rumours about The Night Manager. Two further series are in the works, based on the characters from John le Carre’s 1993 best-seller.

The first series, which aired in 2016, won critical acclaim as well as multiple BAFTAs, Emmy Awards, and Golden Globes – including Best Actor for Tom Hiddleston. It was also watched by a BBC audience of 10 million viewers.

The Night Manager

Now, the storyline will pick up with Hiddleston’s Jonathan Pine eight years on from that explosive finale.

Series creator David Farr writes, with director Georgi Banks-Davies (I Hate Suzie, Paper Girls) directing all six episodes. The show comes from The Ink Factory, with series one star Hugh Laurie taking an executive producer role.

Tom Hiddleston says:

“The first series of The Night Manager was one of the most creatively fulfilling projects I have ever worked on. The depth, range and complexity of Jonathan Pine was, and remains, a thrilling prospect. I’m so looking forward to reuniting with Simon and Stephen Cornwell, David Farr and Stephen Garrett, and to working with Georgi Banks-Davies to tell the next chapter of our story. I can’t wait.”

David Farr says:

“John le Carré’s work has long been an inspiration to me and working closely with him on Season 1 was an honour and a pleasure. I did not tread lightly into extending The Night Manager beyond the original book, but an idea came to me a couple of years ago which felt truthful to that unique world of dark corners and shady identities. No one marries the suspense of espionage with a deep exploration of the human soul quite like le Carré. I hope that in some way we can pay homage to his uneasy genius in this new exploration. I am thrilled to be working again with Tom Hiddleston, Stephen Garrett and The Ink Factory team, and to be welcoming the brilliant director Georgi Banks-Davies into our ranks.”

The details

The Night Manager series two is created and executive produced by David Farr, based on the characters created by John le Carré.

Additional executive producers include Stephen Garrett for Character 7, Georgi Banks-Davies, Hugh Laurie, and Tom Hiddleston; Joe Tsai and Arthur Wang for 127 Wall; Stephen and Simon Cornwell, Michele Wolkoff, and Tessa Inkelaar for The Ink Factory; Adrián Guerra for Nostromo Pictures; William D. Johnson for Demarest Films, Nick Cornwell, Susanne Bier, Chris Rice for FIFTH SEASON and Gaynor Holmes for the BBC.

The series is produced by The Ink Factory in association with Character 7, Demarest Films and 127 Wall, and in co-production with Nostromo Pictures.

You can still see series one of The Night Manager on BBC iPlayer, or internationally on Prime Video.

Filming on the new series begins later in 2024. We’ll keep you posted.
