Doctor Who: 2024 series trailer breakdown

A trailer was released for the 2024 series of Doctor Who which will air this spring.

We will break down the trailer from what we know of the eight episodes in the series and include publicity stills and screen shots from the BBC 2024 trailer.

Episode One will feature a guest cast of nine babies. It was directed by Julie Anne Robinson and written by Russell T Davies. The Doctor and Ruby Sunday investigate babies of extraterrestrial origin.

Episode Two is titled The Devil’s Chord. It was directed by Ben Chessell and written by Russell T Davies. The episode guest stars Jinkx Monsoon as a villain and briefly features The Beatles in a recording studio session in 1963.

Episode Three is directed by Julie Anne Robinson. It is rumoured to feature the Doctor immobilized with his foot on a land mine trap — set to explode if he raises his foot.

Episode Four is directed by Dylan Holmes Williams. It features a political party called Albion with the slogan “Bigger Better Bolder Britain”. Aneurin Barnard guest stars as Welsh Albion candidate Roger ap Gwilliam, who is known as “the space savior”. Jemma Redgrave also guest stars as UNIT chief scientific officer Kate Stewart. Michelle Greenidge appears again as Ruby’s Mother, Carla Sunday and Anita Dobson comes back as Ruby’s mysterious and surprisingly knowledgeable neighbor Mrs Flood.

Episode Five is directed by Dylan Holmes Williams. It features large, slug-like monsters and a mysterious entity called FINETIME, rumoured to be an internet provider. This is likely the episode where Jack Forsyth-Noble guest stars as a character named Will.

Episode 6 is set in the Regency period. It was directed by Ben Chessell and co-written by Kate Herron and Briony Redman. The guest stars who appear in this episode are Jonathan Groff and Indira Varma, who plays a character called the Duchess, who is not what she seems.

Episodes 7 and 8 are a two-part series finale directed Jamie Donoughue and written by Russell T Davies. Bonnie Langford reprises her role as Melanie Bush. Kate Stewart and UNIT are also in this episode so likely Ruth Madeley will return as Shirley Anne Bingham. Yasmin Finney also guest stars, reprising her role as Rose Noble. Michelle Greenidge returns as Ruby’s mother, Carla Sunday.

A new 8-episode Doctor Who series starring Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson will debut in May 2024.
